How To Use Algaecide To Kill Pool Algae

If you swimming pool water is green then chances are you have an algae problem. Algae is a plant that can grow in your pool water causing the water to turn green and trust me, you don’t want your pool to turn green cause no one will swim in it. But getting rid of algae. I was tell people that the best and most efficient way to get rid of algae is by using a high doses of sanitizer like chlorine shock. But if you don’t use chlorine in your swimming pool or you just want to take a different route you can also get rid of algae by using Algaecide.

Algaecide is an algae preventative much like pesticide is a bug preventative. So you want to make sure you pick the right algaecide cause not all of them are composed of the same ingredients. You want to look for algaecides that are clearly labeled as algae killers. Most of them will be more expensive than just regular algaecides.

Once you have found the one algaecide that labels itself as an algae killer then you simply need to follow the directions on the back on how to kill algae. I know this is a vague answer but like I said before all algaecide is different. If you come across a "quat" and chelated copper algaecide, these are meant as preventative. If you are looking for a good algae killer you can add Polymer (polyquat) and Silver Algaecides.

For the most cost effective algaecide is a chelated copper algaecide, however when adding this is large doses it could cause staining so I would only recommend using this as a killer algaecide in vinyl liner pools. In a concrete, fiberglass or white plaster pool you may see heavy staining.
